Expansion of the totalitarian state continues:

In what can only be described as Orwellian, someone looking for a roommate now must approval from the state for his preferences. NYT:

A Web site that matches roommates may be liable for what its users say about their preferences, a fractured three-judge panel of the federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled yesterday.

The suit was brought by two California fair housing groups that objected to postings on the matching service, Roommate.com. The groups said the site violated the Fair Housing Act by allowing and encouraging its users to post notices expressing preferences for roommates based on sex, race, religion and sexual orientation.

not surprising, its from the notorious 9th circuit:
The court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, sent the case back to a trial judge for a determination of whether the site had violated the Fair Housing Act, which forbids publishing real estate notices indicating preferences based on race, religion, sex or familial status.

Lets start off by saying this so called fair housing act is anything but and as with hate crimes only applied to select groups. The whole idea of it is absurd and disregarded by most immigrant groups in the US. The only place it is applied is to 'mainstream America'. So it is with this ruling - it will be applied to someone who dare says they want a straight roommate. Until there is a fundamental shift away from the 1960s 'revolution' these small incursions against individual liberty will keep incurring we'll be no better than a Soviet. But its all about equality ? So was communism. Evil nearly always disguises itself as good. Excuses to grab power are always done with some altruistic justification or another.
