Saint's Days, National Days

I was not surprised to learn that Tony Blair rejected a call to make St. David's Day a national holiday. What can we expect from a country that was bowing so far down to the EU and political correctness that they 'celebrated' the 200th Anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar by having a re-enactment of the 'red' and 'blue' fleets - not actually naming them French and English. I should add that they only did this after widespread reaction to a claim they didn't have the time or money to make any observance of the anniversary.

Poor old Lord Nelson, gave his arm, eye and then life for England, and Blair can't even find the time to honor him. I don't think Blair would want to because he's not an Englishman, but rather an EUman. Blair's indifference is alluded to here:

"While the Government is pleased that so many people are interested, as you can imagine it is not possible to please everyone as to who or what should be celebrated.""

In new, multicultural, touchy feely "Cool Britania" we can't have Welshmen going around celebrating their Welshness. This is doubly true for Englishmen. I understand that there is pressure on the English to not say they are English, as that identifies them as an ethnicity, but rather, say they are "British" . While I can blame the marxists and radicals that came of age in the sixties and now hold the reigns of power it seems this is not a new problem:

"There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other. That word is ENGLAND." - Sir Winston Churchill.

Winston, its not forgotten so much now as forbidden. Personally, I have the pleasure of being an American, but I hope my distant cousins shall not forget their patron saint they way they have forgotten their bravest sailor.

Hmm does America have a patron Saint?

America has several patrons, depending on the country.
If your question was regarding a country in America called United States, no USA do not has a patron because patrons are a catholic use and the founders of USA were not catholics.
Protestants would never revere saints of any kind,is against their religious principles

But instead is proved that protestant nations are far more economically strong than catholic ones, and that fact is linked too to religious believes wrongly associated with money.

hmm protestant countries were actually more religious - during the reformation and that's why we prospered - Idle hands do the devil's work - as we say.

all Protestants - Luthererns Hugugaughs and Anglican, in particular, recognize saints we just don't declare new ones.

anyway I found you have a patron here, the K K KLAN that is recruiting new members in 3 different cities of New Jersey to fight against illegal inmigrants.
I still have tears in my eyes,2007 and we still play inquisition in this planet!
Saint George was portraited killing the demon, but it's still very alive.

it's not because you were more religious than catholics,is because of the teaching the catholics "read' from the bible and the ones protestant "read" from their version.
Anyway, I don't believe in dogmas, that's why I do believe, but not in religions.
I have a father ,I don't need another noe telling me what to do.

Just because someone opposes giving amnesty to someone who breaks our laws doesn't make them 'nazis' or 'kkk' = that's making a demon out of people for having different views than you.
do you keep a lock on your door? do you chose whom to let in your home? a country is the same way.

at the time of the reformation protestants -at least their leaders -were 'more religious' than catholic leaders who had become decadent and corrupt (that is why there was a counter-reformation.

Hey ,I didn't put the name is vane, this past weekend the KKKLAN
was seen and photographed in the streets of 3 different cities of NJ recruiting new members under a sign "fighting against illegal inmigration"
how can you think I am going to use the name of such organization just because nothing else came to my mind?

And is not a question about if I am in agreement about amnesty or not, this is a question of human rights.
INMigration officers is not the KKKLAN.
INMIGRATION officers are not the SS gestapo.
INMIGRATION officers are not the "brigades of the AAA" that tortured and kiled more than 32.000 people, men, women, pregnant women and children in my country.
And can keep going with the list.
Is 2007 we are watching the red hexagon of Saturn surface, and we still play with life as with a dice.
