Rallyin' In The Rain
We who oppose Atlantic Yards had to endure hours in 94+ degree bright sun at a rally last July, and now, an Odysseyian like setting for a rally to save Wards bakery. One would think Zeus is looking down from a cloud, testing our resolve....if my melodramatics (or perhaps Rape of the Lock is more accurate) aren't your thing , the inestimable NoLandGrab takes a light hearted look at it (yes that's where I got the idea for the Gene Kelly picture and headline). Remember two o'clock today (april 15, 2007 for time travelers):
Rally Location Changed to Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church
Due to the likelihood of inclement weather this Sunday, the location of the rally has been moved to the the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church at 85 South Oxford Street. Click here for a map. The nearest subway station is the Lafayette Avenue station on the C line.

good morning:
Just check about the C line because I know C,A and E are trouble this weekend due to constructions.
good luck
thanks. Fortunately I have my old foulie
lol, with this rain you probably need a boat as well.
Feminine foulies is my next product,I am working on the process of coating first,I don't want plastic on my ladies's skins but cotton.
Anyway check the trains situation for those who are coming from far.
i am (seriously) getting out my marine boots. Yes, a foulie's like wearing plastic -
I have one like that, got in at Home Depot with the pants, yellow color, makes me remember the caracter Mario Bros from the Nintendo video games jejej.
I want to make a more femenine shape in nice cotton prints, like flowers and some geometrical cottons I have (you'l see them on my web soon, with the Spring collections)and I have to check with the coating company how many yards they ask me for the coating process.
The only fashion companies that are making nice ones, are way too expensive, but at least I am in sinc with them about the need for nice rain coats :)
take care ok?
don't stop to look at the thunders
promise ?
a burned knicker mmmm no nice.
hmmm cotton you may want to reconsider - because when it gets wet it makes you cold and retains moisture (the first american mountain corps learned this the hard way during WWII) there are some good comfortable synthetics out there or the more expensive alternatives of wool and silk.
Barbour coats , at least on pretty ENglish women, can appear sort of femine, no?
I am off the rally (its only a few blocks away) Ciao.
ps west marine makes relatively inexpensive foul weather coats - they have to be quite durable because salt water and all the sharp things on boats puts heavy wear on them.
"at least on pretty ENglish women"
I don't know what you mean,at least me, I don't make my designs for only certain ethnic groups.
And honestly, the most beautiful women in this country have a mix of races in their blood.
The pure English ones if they don't take really good care at a very early age have horrible skin texture, premature wrinkles, terrible feet, huge hips and really bad hair.
About cotton for my rain coats,if is on the skin and the coating is outside, basically is not going to get wet, that's what the coating is about.
The only synthetics confortable are mixes of modal and microfibers and those are knitting fabrics, no apt for plain patterns.
The companies that make rain coats that are relatively confortable for the skin inner fabrics, the make sportive styles, no stylish ones, because of that, because the fabircs they use on the inside can't be used other way.
As I said several times to people telling me "do you make practical totes"? I said "I make beauty I don't make practical" and that's what my ladies come to me for.
When they need practical they go to Paragon Sports on 14 st, when they are getting married and they want their braid mades look stunning, they come to me.
When mother's day come or Christmas comes they come to me, when they want a sailor outfit they go to EMS or Paragon.
clear? :)
another lesson for you come back home:
How could you possible use wool or silk for a rain coat?
a plastic coating slide applied over wool or silk? SPANK FOR THE KNICKER!
and just ot let you know, the lining of coats is not silk but satin -in the hight quality ones - and poliester or mix tafeta on lower qualities.
Silk, real silk is made by a bug, yes! a bug a a maggot. Is a beautiful process!
Nowadays, fibers from a special kind of palm tree are used to make substitutes, and there's only 2 factories still alive in the world, one in Mexico one in Korea.
:)
english ladies and synthetic fabrics... no home made brownies for you today!
back...very wet....a warm cup of tea, a book by side....a rainy day the only thing missing is a fireplace.
i will bow to your superior knowledge of clothing, fibers, methods and materials - but traditionally sailing gear (before synthetics) and even cycling gear was made of wool because it kept you warm even when wet. same with silk - it was used for undersear and underlayers before synthetics.
Hi wet boy:
I stayed home, humidity is very bad for my lungs, and I cook some brownies while one of my friends with babies called me (I have 2 friends with babies, one had twins 7 months ago, another has a 3 years old girl and just had a baby boy 2 weeks ago)so they call me when babies allow some time off lol ,and of course I am there for them.
Wool, let me tell you my dear, I remember that stupid concept, because I used to go to a summer camp close to the ocean where they gave us wool swimming wear, one piece marine blue.
THE MOST UNCONFORTABLE HUNGLY THING EVER,and when it was wet it was super heavy, smelly and BLODY COLD.
And if you don't behave lol, I will send you one of those for your next birthday.
it must be from those hugly wool marine underwear that the "limeys" got their colds and scorbuto fevers.
GOD bless Linus Pauling!
