Friday Music Break

I saw the movie Kandukonden Kandukonden last night a tamil film loosely based on Sense and Sensibilty starring Ajith, Mammooty, Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, Abbas with music by AR. Rahman
the catchiest being:

Kannamoochchi which has a charming picturization in the film. Ash, Mammooty (my God where do they get these names) and Tabu are perfectly cast. I watched this some time ago and was only mildly impressed, but after watching it again and taking more note of Tabu's performance I found it more enjoyable.

Also with Hindi (and this case) Tamil, music, I often dislike when first listening and then it 'catches on' a few months later. Strange. It might be a result of my utter revulsion towards hippies whom I can vaguely remember as a preschooler. The only trappings of things Indian that I heard and saw were processed through a filter of acid rock/hippie culture. I remember some hippies harassing me and my friends when I was in preschool (yes, preschool) perhaps it explains why I was an early adapter punk rocker, and I still shutter at the sight of western men wearing "Indian" clothing. Thank goodness the sari requires too much grace and elegance for a woman dropping acid to wear, let alone put on.

I was delighted to learn, later in life that Indian writers like Gita Meta shared my disdain.

Note this is a "Kollywood" not Bollywood film....the Southern Indian Film industry. Thank goodness for email, I recommended it to a friend....gawd knows I would never be able to recommend it over the phone since I can't begin to pronounce it!

is it just me or is Tabu far more beautiful and charming than Ash?

Sense and sensibility how much I love it and all that romantic era.
Specially the fashion styles, the "Empire cut " dresses (those dresses cut under the bust line are called empire cut)
I got one, long, in a pale pink light brocade,is so beautiful I only wore it ones, and even so I will never get rid of it, is one of m special pieces.

As the main member of your blog's fan club, hey, I won the tittle! :)
The first issue of Vogue men's last year.
George Clooney wearing that amazing grey wool suit and the long camel coat.
(Is the picture I have on the wall behind my screen)that's
the good thing about this anonimous "friendship", I can picture you as I want :)

Ha! well i can't compete with that image :)
how do I dress? well let's just say I am one of the few people around the same age as Brad Pitt or younger that knows how to tie a bow tie, but today I didn't shave and have jeans and black sweater on.

The Napoleonic Wars era: that's where the anglo (and now world's ) men's look came from - blue jackets on HMS Blazer and other navy ships (that's where theterm blazer comes from)

PS Thanks #1 fan. there's youtube link to that song now.

"I didn't shave and have jeans and black sweater on."

black sweater and jeans but he shaved for the picture.
ps:I understand what you mean, specially in this neigbourhood oh Gosh what's wrong with the ladies in this neighbourhood and fashion? why they look so puaj masculine, sometimes I wonder if when they move here the 'official uniform" is Columbia performance fleece jackets and birkenstock style boots.
I understand not everybody is a size 2 :) but come on!
is that why people ask me when I walk in my neigh "where are going dressed like that "? I guess taht's why.
I

#1 fan is sad :( you don't want to explain me about the term blazer?
:( :( :(

what do you wish to know? the blue blazer came from the english and american navies - the 'look' of a blue blazer and khakis is derived from the officer's uniform.
originaly the color was black (the color of english ships) because sailors would take canvass from sails and make jackets and then paint them to keep them waterproof.

The KnickerBlogger said...

also:
In 1837 the Commander of the frigate H. M. S. Blazer was told that England’s young queen, Victoria, would soon inspect his ship. He took one look at the unsightly condition of his crew’s dress and decreed that they would get new uniforms. He decided on a short jacket with Brass Royal Navy buttons. There is a disagreement as to the color of those first Blazers. In one account the jackets were striped navy and white, but another reports solid navy serge. In either case, Victoria was so favorably impressed she required all the Queen’s sailors to be in similar uniform.

and yes, in general American women lack feminity and men are slobs. this unfortunate trend is being exported to youth via MTV

Anonymous said...

First "what do you wish to know" is so rude that doesn't even makes me want to read your explanation.
Second, not only MTV export those looks, not at least the onces I was talking about, seems that you have no idea about the fashion stylists at MTV and I do.
I don't like at all what they choose ,one of the reasons why I decline to work with them when asked for, but definitely has nothing to do with performance fleece and Birkenstock.
Today you could perfectly change yor nick to Rubby Lith.
And at least I pictured you with a nice vest and a nice color shirt!
May be my imagination was way too nice!

The KnickerBlogger said...

First "what do you wish to know" is so rude
I am sorry, I didn't mean to be, how do you interpret this as rude????

The KnickerBlogger said...

...and you are entirely correct about not knowing about MTV- I don't have a TV ;)

you better find another phrase, ones sounds interesting, twice, for somebody of your intellectual qualities, sound boring.
Every time you want to stereotype something related with street wear, there you go with MTV! AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A TV!
Let me explain something to you Rubbylith,I am not one of those calling themselves fashion designers because is "fancy",fashion is a social phenomema, and a very interesting one under several points of view.
I read ,and study and observe.
Walk Park Slope and you'll see the "I don't like to be a woman, nobody makes feel like one" fact that make this ladies dress as they do.
I am sure that if you ask to many of them when was the last time your husband/boyfriend bring you flowers,or held your hand while walking you will find a huuuuge silence.
Ask many of those slobs when was the last time thier wife/ girlfriend made his bow tie or iron one of his shirts, and another huuuuuge silence.
you want me to keep telling you?
no, I am sure you don't.
Let me go back to deal with the piece from where your today's nick name come from.

I don't know your emotional situation, but I guess you are heterosexual if not, its applies the same.
In any case,if you don't have a partner, next time you find someone you think could be a good one, ask the person to get a piece of Rubbylith ,easy to find at pearl paint, and they can explain how to use it.
If this person is able to sucessful use the rubbylith, then is ready to be with you, other way, forget it.
I don't know you, but lately I speak with you almost every day.
sometimes suggestions from strangers works better than the ones coming from very close people.
(and you don't have to tell her why you want to do the rubbylith thing):)

The KnickerBlogger said...

guess I am hetrosexual? ha How many pictures of Vidya Balan have I put up ;)
Rubylith ? i don't understand....isnt' that used for graphics.?? color separations..what would that have to do with relationships?

Anonymous said...

and ladies and gentlemen we reach the comment number 20! yeah!lol
ok, rubbylith is used to prepare the design you want to put in a silk screen.
you can do it with China marker on transfering papper but it looks like an impressionist design, you know what I mean the edges won be so precise,so if you want precise edges in a silk screen design, you have to first do it on rubbylith.
The material istelf looks like a acetate and is red (rubby?)looks like one layer but is actually 2,one red ,one transparent.

Ones you draw your design, you have to cut it with an EXACTO cutter but so so softly that will only cut the red layer, because ones you completely do this patient work you have to peel the red from the background and just leave in red the design itself.
If you press the cutter to hard, you break the base, and if you don't press enough, when you peel, nothing comes out.
The final result I can't tell you, is so beautiful, looks like vitraux,I just made a long like bambu plant with several leaf both sides and is going to be print in the center front of one the dresses of my new collection.
You are like rubbylith,no pression, no effect, you need some exitement to "ignite" your fire, but too much pression MEGA BUM!
So your lady has to be strong enough to stand straight but soft enough as to melt your heart to see your real beauty.
- I have to thank piano concerts 12,14, 20 and 21 from Mozart and number 5 from J.S Bach, they made my journey much more sweet trough the material.

the girl who sings the clip is very beautiful but I would like to see her without the plastic eyes, those are not her eyes.
sorry :( but is true.

The KnickerBlogger said...

the one whom i think is prettier is Tabu who plays the shy sister. but ashwayair rai does have intense eyes as many indian actresses do (rani mukerjee) but she does wear contacts too.

Anonymous said...

really?
no I think the one who sings and dance is much more beautiful, the sister's nose is fea, fea.
And she doesn't have a very nice body expression either.neither her hair.
(I am bad with the girls this morning ah?) lol

The KnickerBlogger said...

most of the world agrees with you as ashwayi rai is considered among the most beautiful women in the world , but i think there is something about Tabu's demeanur and soul (and not just in this role) that comes out in her features....

The KnickerBlogger said...

here is tabu currently http://www.cheenikum.com/ cheeni kum

the movie with ash was from about 5 years ago.

may be you had the chance to look into her eyes durnig the movie,I do believe that what they say that the eyes are the windows of the soul.
That's why I would bever change the color of mines, when I was child I use to spend hours looking into my eyes with a magnify mirrow.
I don't know if you are interested but there's a a very good movie about ayurvedic medicine, you know, the ancient Indian medicine method.
Is so good and interesting,it was filmed in location all over India.
I wanted to fly right then after that film!
That and my practice of asthanga yoga, and the Taj Mahal, and the image of a lake that I never saw anywhere, only in dream and I know I have to find, and the women who embroderie by hand with silk, dancing classes!OM SHANTI!

oh no,she has the face of those woemn who would play angel and be a real b....
sorry knicky :(

The KnickerBlogger said...

really look at this interview
she carries herself, (I think ) unlike most western actresses today - more reminscent of audrey hepburn, golden age hollywood that sort of thing

Is amazing, the more intelligent men are the most confused about women,is may be that their vivid imaginations carry them away from reality and the proyection of their "dreamed muse" is so powerful that takes over reality?
I am going to thing about this matter later, interesting thought for my jacuzzi.bubbles and philosophical thoughts, my knid of bath) lol
Anyway, back to the girl in question, the older she is getting the less interesting her face and
Don't you remember that Audrey's career and mainly all her life was digitated and manipulated by her mother?Audrey was not a hapy woman till she was well grown.
I think her friendship with Givenchy, her marriage with Jose Ferrer and her amazing humanitarian work for the U N were her most "self created " instances, but not the previous.
Plus, you are talking about and era when women usually didn't "decide".
Do you know by example than in the 50's (and you can ask you mom and you'll see I am not wrong) in the 50's a "decent" woman couldn't really take a taxi by herself, I mean ,she could but it was not very well seen socially speaking.
And I can go on if you want.
It will be my pleasure to discuss about social develop of females trough history and cultures with you, whenever you want.
Is always interesting to know a male point of view.
